I went to a horse show with a friend of mine and noticed a bunch
of people lunging their horses with the chain run under the chin instead of
over the nose. The way they had it hooked up was it was run thru the one side of
the halter under the chin and thru the other side then they took it and hooked
it together under the chin. It looked like a V under the horse's chin. Is this
a better or worse way to run the chain? Cheryl Cheryl: it is an excellent way to hook up the chain...especially after the horse knows and understands about lungeing. With young horses just learning, I like it over the nose--it is simply more effective because you get a downward pressure instead of a wider, upward pressure which the horse can avoid by lifting his head. If your horse is stopping well and respects the chain over the nose, put it under the chin...the horse will do quite nicely with that system. |
