FINAL RESTING PLACE FOR GONZALES JOE BAILEY The American Quarter Horse Gonzales Joe Bailey has found his final resting place in his hometown of Gonzales, Texas. The famous sire was so popular and accomplished so much (his offspring were great race horses of that era) that he has his own website…www.gonzalesjoebailey.com and will soon have a life-size stature above his grave in J.B. Wells Park. In order to finally get home, the horse was exhumed from his first gravesite and moved to his new gravesite. Gonzales Joe Bailey was one of 19 AQHA foundation sires and was given the number P-4. He died in 1947… Gonzales Joe Bailey was one of three Quarter Horse stallions named Joe Bailey after the popular US Senator and Congressman Joe Bailey of Gainsville, Texas. Gonzales Joe sired approximately 1,500 foals…many of which did not get entered into the registration records of the fledgling AQHA, since the organization was not founded until 1941. |
